We work with the Students’ Association to develop our students through the Student Leaders Programme, and, through our international partners in China, Oman and other countries, we facilitate academic and research links and international staff and student exchanges.

Learning and teaching
Innovative learning options
At Glasgow Caledonian University we believe in exploring new and beneficial learning and teaching methods and technologies. Innovations in this area include our Going Digital framework and an on-site virtual hospital that helps train tomorrow’s nurses and midwives.
Academic Development and Student Learning
Academic Development and Student Learning supports Professional Development and Professional Recognition of staff involved in teaching and student learning support roles as well as Educational Research and Evaluation development across the institution.’
Learning Development Centres
Each School in the University has a Learning Development Centre (LDC) which provides academic writing support for home and international students, ICT support, advice on study skills and other academic support and guidance. The LDCs are inclusive and committed to providing support for all students including those with disabilities or specific learning and teaching needs.
Virtual Hospital
Our inter-professional simulation centre is fully equipped with state-of-the art high fidelity simulators and recording equipment. Bespoke scenarios can be created in-house by the technical team and filmed using the SMOTSTM camera system. We also have a simulated home environment which provides a unique, adaptable learning space for community nursing scenarios, emergency ambulance callouts and occupational therapy assessments.
Media studios
Our purpose-built television studio and gallery, radio studio, digital media studio and newsroom all feature modern digital equipment, enabling students to use industry-standard software to produce television and radio packages and bulletins, blogs, newspapers and magazines.
Academic Quality
Ensures the quality of the learning experience the University provides and works towards its continual enhancement through partnership with staff, students and external bodies.
Chancellor Dr Annie Lennox OBE
Royal Academician, singer-songwriter, highly-respected social activist and philanthropist, Dr Annie Lennox OBE was formally installed as Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University on the 2nd of July 2018.
Dr Lennox was inspired to launch the SING Campaign to raise funds to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS after taking part in the inaugural concert of Nelson Mandela’s 46664 HIV Foundation in 2003, and visiting Uganda with Comic Relief and Malawi with Oxfam. An Ambassador for UNAIDS, Oxfam, Amnesty International and the British Red Cross, Dr Lennox received the Nobel Woman of Peace Award at the 10th Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in 2011 for her work on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, especially for women and children. In 2011 she received an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours for her humanitarian work.
Throughout her hugely creative and successful musical career spanning more than 30 years, Annie Lennox has so far received an Oscar, four Grammy Awards, eight Brit Awards and four Ivor Novello Awards. She founded The Circle, a charitable non-governmental organisation, in 2008. The Circle has a vision of equality for women and girls in a fairer world and supports some of the most disempowered women and girls in the world to change and challenge the injustices they face. In 2017, Dr Lennox’s most recent social philanthropic work was honoured when she received the George Harrison Global Citizen Award.
